Fernando Macías

Fernando Macías-Aranda is AssociatedProfessor in the Faculty of Education of the University of Barcelona, PhD in Education and Society (2017). As a Romani researcher, Macías Aranda is especially interested in the study of Romani achievements in the academic system going beyond stereotypes and prejudices against his community. Macias Aranda develops his professional activity as a researcher at the Centro de Estudios Gitanos(CEG) of CREA-University of Barcelona. He has published several scientific publications, some of them indexed in the JCR (Journal Citation Report) database, and he is co-author of the chapter "Making Roma Rights a Reality at the Local Level: A Spanish Case Study", included in a book coordinated by Jacqueline Bhabha, Andrzej Mirga and Margareta Mataché.

Fernando Macías-Aranda is an associate professor at the Faculty of Education at the University of Barcelona and a member of the technical team of the Integrated Plan for the Roma People of the Government of Catalonia. He holds a Ph.D. in Education and Society (2017), a B.A. in Education (2011), a M.A. in Social and Educational Interventions (2012) and another M.A. in Research in Didactics, Training and Educational Evaluation (2013); all granted by the University of Barcelona.

As a researcher and Roma, Macías-Aranda is especially interested in research related to affirmative action policies, the access of Roma people to the university system, Successful Educational Actions, overcoming stereotypes and prejudices against their community and the fight against Anti-Gypsyism. In this sense, Macias Aranda develops his professional activity as a researcher at the Roma Studies Group (CEG) of CREA-University of Barcelona.

Macías Aranda has numerous scientific publications, some of them indexed in the prestigious database JCR (Journal Citation Report), and he is co-author of the book chapter "Making Roma Rights a Reality at the Local Level: A Spanish Case Study", coordinated from Harvard University by Dr. Jacqueline Bhabha, and the Roma scholars Andrzej Mirga and Margareta Mataché.

He has been a visiting scholar at the "Civil Rights Project" at the University of California - Los Angeles (UCLA) and at the "Department of Curriculum & Instruction (C&I)" at the University of Wisconsin - Madison.

Finally, it should be noted that Macías-Aranda is the secretary of the scientific journal "International Journal of Roma Studies" and thatsince 2011, he has participated in different competitive projects funded by the European Union, the Spanish Government or the Government of Catalonia, as well as in several National and international Conferences. In fact, he has been the Spanish representative of the "Doctoral & Early Career Network" of the WERA (World Educational Research Association) from 2017 to 2020.
