Anabel Carballo-Mesa is a Ph.D. candidate at the Univeristy of Barcelona (UB) with a thesis proposal about the Nazi genocide of the Roma people, focussing on oral history and therefore on the testimonies from Roma and Sinti survivors. She is holding also a Bachelor Degree in European Studies from the London South University (UK), a master in International Relations and a master in Contemporary History at the UB. Since 2014, Carballo-Mesa collaborates as facilitator and trainer in the Roma Genocide Remembrance Initiative Dikh He Na Bister! (Look and don’t forget!) led by ternYpe International Roma Youth Network and co-organised with the Documentation and Cultural Centre of German Sinti and Roma. As a researcher, she is interested in the historical memory of the Roma, with a special interest in the Roma genocide.
Carballo-Mesa is member of the Spanish working group of the research project BESTROM – Beyond Stereotypes: Cultural Exchange and the Romani Contribution to the European Public Space and she is member of the Spanish research team of the European project CHACHIPEN - Paving the way for Truth and Reconciliation Process to address antigypsyism in Europe: Remembrance, Recognition, Justice and Trust-Building led by CEPS – Centre for European Policy Studies.
Since 2011, she is the responsible of the European and International Area of FAGiC – Federation of Roma Associations in Catalonia and since 2018 she is member of the Board of Directors of Phiren Amenca International Roma Network.
